This would be a great option, I would save a ton of space and not waste time on conversions. Do you have plans to introduce such a feature?

Reducing file size option (downscaling for retina displays)

Pooya
screenshot files on macOS with retina resolution are too large. we use screen/video recording for bug reporting via Trello & it would help if there was a downsize/downscale + filetype (jpg, gif) option. currently for images I use Lightshot & also GIPHY for video recordings which both offer an option for reducing file size. if Capture could offer these options I would gladly switch.

Pooya Makes sense, thanks for sharing. For screenshots, totally see the point. For recordings, the default quality is set to 720p on your preferences. Would you like to have something smaller than that? Thanks!

Pooya
Youcef Es-skouri: Yes, for video recordings GIHPY offers dimension & frame rate options which is handy for downsizing the output to have faster collab with teammates.

Pooya: got it. Thank you for those details. I will keep the post open here so that other people can chime in and vote!

Compatibility is another reason - not everything accepts submission in PNG's but most do take in JPG.

Save Capture screenshots in JPG instead of PNG

Andrey Nikiforov
Advantage would be to have a smaller file size.

I think there should be an option to choose a file type (JPG, 90% compression, JPG with 80% compression, PNG)

Youcef Es-skouri
Thanks for your feedback, Andrey. Is there a specific reason why you’d prefer screenshots to be in JPG and not PNG? Thanks!

Andrey Nikiforov
Youcef Es-skouri: hi, yes, file size

Youcef Es-skouri
Andrey Nikiforov: Understood. Thank you very much. Edited your post a bit to make it clearer. I will keep it here so that other people can chime in and vote. Thanks a lot!

Andrey Nikiforov
Youcef Es-skouri: yes, thanks. May be not instead, more like an option

Andrey Nikiforov: I would definitely like it to be an option, because image quality is more important to me than file size. I don't want JPEG artifacts distorting the image captured. :)

Andrey Nikiforov
Gary Higginbotham: yeah, different needs
